DYNASTI- 贰零肆陆 by Rose NG

When I was in Melbourne early last year; I had the pleasure of staying with Rose Ng and Ice Cheung - of Dynasti. After I came home in a food coma to a frozen house due to the malfunctioning heating system, to my dismay, we setup a makeshift studio space in the living room and shot this amazing series and video. There were no complains as we shot into the early hours of the morning because we knew we were merely vessels materialising Rose's stylised vision, a re imagining of Wong Kar Wai's movie 2046. The whole experience has really got me proud of my roots; looking into Chinese culture and tradition and just being inspired by Chinese aesthetics, a philosophy that drives Dynasti.

Furry Phenomenon

It's been a lifetime since I've posted on here! I have been giving my furries my 100% attention, it is a tough gig hand making every single order. It's so worth it, sending a piece of myself out with every pht goody. I will never give up.

Hi bbs!! So excited to finally put this shoot up that we shot with Jonathan Rae, my no.1 photographer.  My friend Stella (@thugpony) and I made the clothing and accessories. I FINALLY got around to editing it up psycho! So much fun!

Nightmare Vapours

I'm so excited to finally show you what I've been up to! It has been a long time coming, but I got to collaborate with two amazing creatives on a little project about a girl who is haunted by sweet but sometimes, sinister entities of another dimension.  Her mind is ruled by an obsessed illustrator, whatever he draws comes true in her world. She tries to ignore them but she would secretly feel lonely without them.

The Horticulturalist

"Calculating, intuitive and slightly unhinged, she dresses in clinical white and her chunky heels are strictly for soil aeration purposes. Her neighbours often peer over the back fence, catching strange glimpses of shear wielding and poison brewing. The psychotropic weed assassin digs in the garden all day but somehow her fingernails are always clean.

Our greenhouse girl has more knowledge than a shelf full of botany books, a scientific approach to growth patterns and soil acidity and an unnatural attachment to the fruits of her labour. Her long locks turned green from chlorophyll exposure and she kills time pressing native flowers and herbs. If she planted her own hands, they’d probably sprout tulips." I thought I'd share some out takes from a shoot I did with the Sargasso Sea girls, a few months ago. You can see the full story here at Haunt Mag which has become my recent favorite source of visual inspiration.

Brisbane babes Bianca Blades and Kellie Pembroke are the duo behind the impeccable visual diary of fashion and media culture. Full of well informed and witty articles on fashion and consumptions as well a plethora of perfectly curated glossy fashion images it's no wonder Sargasso Sea won the 2012 Ultrabook Pedestrian.tv Blogster Awards (where they scored an internship with Vogue Australia in Sydney). It's meeting such motivated creatives that truly make me want to get off my ass and do MORE STUFF!

So when Bianca approached me to be in their next styling and fashion direction project, I was over the moon to be involved. This was a Spring story without the expected aspect of floral overkill, where a fictional fashion character was invented so you could only imaging how much I was loved the concept! We spent a lovely afternoon dressing up in Emily Mcguire's dreamy creations, digging around the West End community gardens!

Slow Down

A while back in Melbourne I was lucky enough to hang out and get shot by Winter's Children! The lovely duo consisting of Alicia Maybir and Josie Gelling are all about a certain heartfelt process involving film photography, (sometimes mixing digital) then playing with mixed media and a nostalgic way of 'waiting things to dry.'

No doubt these girls are onto something here! Part 1 and part 2 are up but still waiting in anticipation for many more posts to come from our shoot, still being cooked up as we speak! In the mean time, here's a little more about them...

How did it all begin/how did you guys meet?
So we met this one time in grade 7 primary school in Cairns and then we went through a faze of emailing each other from our primitive hotmail accounts every single day for about 3 weeks. We used to get really into it, changing all the colours, fonts and sizes it was like windows 95 multicolour, lucida sans vomit, pretty great. And so here we are 9 years later. As far as the blog goes after high school we were living in different cities and both had shitty personal blogs, so then we decided to combine them and make one big shitty blog thus the birthing of Winter's Children.

What/who inspires you to create?
rubbish, music, culture, film, friends, drop kicks, books, posters, nostalgia, food, freaks, bad dreams, good dreams, cheap wine, lack of sleep.

What's next for winters children (any exciting projects coming up)?
At the moment we're collaborating with a bunch of really cool people, It's all pretty up in the air at the moment but we'll be keeping y'all updated on our facebook and all the other social networking crap we have out there.

Wonderland

Henry Holland silk shirt, Zara leather dress, swan garters, vintage lace ups

Freshly dyed hair! Started using Stargazer semi permanent rinse (off ebay) which is like 98349234 times better okay. It's definitely brighter and shinier and comes in a squeeze tube (YEAHH), 1 bottle ended up being plenty for my lengths. Also bought a bunch of La Riche so I'll fill you in as I get through it all.

Been enjoying life too much post uni we're talking waffle dates, kareoke, diablo 3, making shapes on various d floors (not in moderation). It's been a long time coming and graduation is near need some kind of dress but might just scab something off my best fraaaan. Still lusting over Emma Mulholland, graduation backpack anyone?

I'm also really excited about sharing some pictures from a shoot this weekend I did with the AMAZING Amelia Dowd (who I have also worked with for Colony) for a super talented fashion student. It's all under wraps right now but I can tell you it involved asian supermarkets, burgers, gaming arcades, drool worthy tights, sugar, unicorns and swimwear. Super surprised with the things we got away with that day, didn't end up getting kicked out except for a group of creepy bums and rise of the drunks at the end of the night. Colonize

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be asked to do a shoot with Amelia Dowd for Colony. Amelia is a Brisbane local creative who has featured in publications such as Mayhem Magazine, online at Vogue Italia and more. This is her website which blew me away and intimidated me when Jess told me that she would be the photographer! Little did I know there was nothing to fear, it was an enjoyable afternoon in the sunshine, dressing up (we had Pamela Love and Scosha to play with too!), amongst warm and wonderful company. Below, Amelia answers some hard and fast questions ;)

3 words that describe you? Loud, creative, loving.

Top 5 movies of all time? The Lion King, Fight Club, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Up and anything with Meryl Streep.

What are you listening to at the moment? The Last Dinosaurs album, In a Million Years. Also Patti Smith

Where are you on a sunday afternoon? Usually sleeping. I am busy in the week, I cherish sleep.

If you could be any animal what would you be and why? These questions are hard! A bird, to fly. Or maybe a dolphin.

If it was your birthday next what would be at the top of your wishlist? Flights to Paris or NYC.
